Festival del Ciarlatano Cerretano
Every August, the medieval Umbrian village of Cerreto di Spoleto hosts the Festival del Ciarlatano Cerretano, a unique celebration of the town's surprising linguistic legacy—the very word "charlatan" originates from *Cerretano*, the name for its inhabitants, who in the Middle Ages roamed Europe as wandering healers and street performers selling miraculous remedies with a mix of medicine, magic, and theatrical flair.
